Walking Through Grief: A Gallery Exhibition
Before graduating from my bachelor's program, students are required to generate a project with potential to continue the project into completion as they embark into their career post-graduation. Not all students complete their project within the six month period of the grad courses or have any intention of bringing it into fruition. However, I personally decided to use this opportunity to come up with a realistic project that I plan on following through with. After mostly being lost on what to do and a brain storming session with my amazing supervisor, I landed on an exhibition of my work exploring the theme of grief through art. Since beginning this project in October of last year, I have constructed a proposal plan containing market research, finances and potential venues to host a gallery exhibition.
Through this process I have been learning about my own relationship with grief while exploring questions such as how can we connect with our grief through art, what can art do within the process of grieving and lastly, how can something that can be different for each individual be communicated in a universal way?
Now that my logistics are framed out, I have moved into the process of creating the actual art work. Over the past two months, slowly but surely, I have been sorting visuals and better forming what I want this gallery to look like in terms of the art itself. There is a lot of experimentation, processing, research, and of course creating. With even more of these things to come.
With transforming my own experiences into art, I want anyone moving through their own grief or have their own experience can relate to my work and find comfort in it. I hope that through my art, I can communicate to an audience comfort through the recognition of shared experiences. Evoking deep empathy and reflection in a safe and contemplative space.
